Sony experienced massive success with the reveal of its newest smartphone, the Sony Xperia Z1, at the IFA 2013. But even before the smartphone can be enjoyed by many people, rumours of the successor to the Xperia Z1 are already underway.

Allegedly codenamed Avatar, the Sony Xperia Z2 even has a features list for those who want to know what to expect of the next smartphone.

Geeky-Gadgets reports that the specs include a 5.2-inch IGZO Triluminous display with 500ppi pixel density, topping the current highest holder, HTC One at 468ppi; the Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 chipset; 3200 mAh camera; the touted 20.7-megapixel camera; and 3 GB of RAM.

But the biggest feature expected is the Android 4.4 Kitkat, the newest latest Android expected to come out at CES 2014. Given the timeline, it is possible that the Sony Xperia Z2 will come out earlier next year compared to its predecessor's rollout this year.

If you want to wait for the Xperia Z2 with the Android 4.4 Kitkat but don't want to spend the year with your old phone, Sony is also rumoured to be developing a mini version of the Sony Xperia Z1 to be rolled out later this year with hopefully a lower price tag.

Nokia Lumia 1520 to Come Later Next Month

Nokia's own take at the phablet industry has been rumoured for this month, but now, source insider @evleaks has announced that it may come in October.

"According to several sources, Bandit launch was pushed back. Could be 10/22," said @evleaks in a tweet quoted by GSM Arena.

As far as other features are concerned, iDigital Times has collated several sources and leaks to point out the two most prominent specs that are recently gracing headlines, including the 4G logo imprint and a 20-megapixel Carl Zeiss Pure View camera with flash.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is expected to be the first of the Nokia line of devices to feature a full HD display at 1080p screen resolution, backed by a 3400 mAh battery, the highest among phablets in the market, and a voice assistant feature similar to Siri, touted as Cortana.

Cortana takes off from Microsoft's best-selling game, "Halo." Cortona is an AI construct who helped Master Chief throughout the game.

HTC One Max Concepts Showcase Powerful Device

A potential contender of the Nokia Lumia 1520 is the HTC One Max, another phablet that has been making a buzz despite lack of any official announcements regarding the device.

Just as the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6 had enjoyed the onslaught of concept videos and renders from fans prior to IFA 2013, it's now the HTC One Max's turn in the spotlight, as Phones Review reports some of the recent leaked renders for HTC's upcoming phablet.

Dubbed as the HTC One Ultra, this concept renders the device as having a 5.9-inch display, which is bigger than the rumoured 5.6-inch display, but closer to most phablets in the industry today. The render also has a fingerprint scanner, though given the latest fiasco brewing in Apple's arena regarding the said feature, this may not be such a wise decision as of yet.

The set of renders for the HTC One Ultra is credited to Hasan Kaymak, but it feels almost too futuristic, with a HTC Sense 6.0 with Active Multitasking. This feature basically takes away the function of a power button as the phone recognizes its owner's hand.
