Nintendo’s “Pikmin” series is reportedly getting a new title, and creator Shigeruo Miyamoto has revealed that it is very close to being complete. With “Pikmin 3” released just a couple of years ago, the move comes as a surprise to fans who waited a long time between “”Pikmin 3” and “Pikmin 4.”

It appears that information on the development of “Pikmin 4” has been embargoed until now, Eurogamer reports. Despite the lack of updates until now, Miyamoto revealed that the team behind the franchise is busy working on the title. The last title in the series, “Pikmin 3,” was launched for the Wii U back in 2013. Those unfamiliar with the series can see one of the game’s main characters, Olimar, in the “Super Smash Bros” game.

"It's actually very close to completion," Miyamoto said. “Pikmin teams are always working on the next one.”

The company itself then confirmed Shigeru’s claims in a separate statement released to Eurogamer. Nintendo stated that they assure that “Pikmin 4” is in the works, but that’s all the company can confirm as of the moment.

With Nintendo currently fronting the Wii U and the 3DS hardware, “Pikmin 4” could see its release on one of the two consoles. It could once again make use of the Wii U’s Gamepad or it could hit handheld consoles for the first time with the 3DS. Seeing the title on the 3DS could allow the game to utilise the dual screen, touchscreen, mic and gyroscopic capabilities of the handheld. However, players could also expect the game as one of the flagship titles for Nintendo’s yet to be revealed console, the NX.

Pikmin” is somewhat of a strategy game as it requires critical thinking and thorough planning. The game sees players lead a group of tiny aliens as they try to survive in an otherwise hostile planet. The players will use three explorers to guide the little aliens as they try to gather resources, fight enemies and overcome obstacles through various means.
