‘Pitch Perfect 3’ star Anna Kendrick doubted the franchise’s sequel
Universal Pictures’ “Pitch Perfect” franchise is returning to the big screens for its third film. The threequel is something that actress Anna Kendrick (Beca) may not have expected as she was initially doubtful that “Pitch Perfect 2” could ever happen.
Although the first film in the franchise has been a huge hit with a total earnings of US$115 million (AU$149 million) worldwide, Kendrick did not expect that the sequel would happen. She said there were so many speculations about a possible “Pitch Perfect 2” but she did not feel like it is actually going to come to life.
The actress shared that when the fate of the “Pitch Perfect 2” has not been made final, she was sort of running around going. She believed it was not going to happen.
“Because movies have made more money and have not gotten sequels, so I didn't expect it to happen,” Kendrick said. She has confessed in an interview on the “Today” show that it was when the “Pitch Perfect” cast have signed for a second film that she knew it was really going to happen. “It really wasn't until all the girls signed on that I was like, 'Well, it would be so crazy if they were all doing it and I wasn't there,'” she said.
“Pitch Perfect 2” has earned US$284 million (AU$370 million) worldwide. Despite the success of the first and second films, Kendrick thinks the upcoming threequel may be the last for the franchise.
“It feels like a trilogy, but I don’t know – maybe that’s what they said about 'Fast & Furious'?” Belfast Telegraph has quoted the actress as saying. The “Fast & Furious” is now heading to its eighth film.
Kendrick thinks there will be no more films in the franchise past "Pitch Perfect 3." But based on her association of the film to “Fast & Furious," it seems the actress is hopeful that there will be more to come for the "Pitch Perfect" franshice.
For the threequel, Trish Sie has taken the directorial seat from a script written by Kay Cannon and a draft from Mike White. Aside from Kendrick, Rebel Wilson (Fat Amy), Hailee Steinfeld (Emily), Chrissie Fit (Flo), Kelly Jakle (Jessica) and Ester Dean (Cynthia Rose) have already signed up to reprise their roles in “Pitch Perfect 3.”
Meanwhile, the actress has shared through the Hollywood Reporter that she is a sci-fi/fantasy fan. Some of the films she likes are “Star Wars,” “Lord of the Rings,” “Game of Thrones” and “Harry Potter.”
“Pitch Perfect 3” is produced by Gold Circle Entertainment’s Paul Brooks and Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions. It is expected to hit Australian theatres on Dec. 22.
