Poole heads for Manchester United
Regan Leslie Poole, former Welsh central defender will be soon be joining the Red Devils after passing a medical at the club’s Carrington training ground. Poole, who was earlier on a trial at Manchester United, has now been signed for an undisclosed fee. BBC Sports have speculated the fee to be £100,000 (AU $1.6 million) that can rise up to £400,000 (AU $6.3 million).
The 17-year-old Poole was earlier associated with Newport and last year made his debut as their youngest-ever player against Shrewsbury Town, at the age of 16 years and 94 days. He also represents Wales at Under-17 level and made his debut with the team in a 2-1 win over Montenegro. The young star was also eyed by Liverpool, Fulham and Hull City but Manchester United bagged the four-year long deal with him.
"It's a wonderful opportunity for him to progress at such a magnificent club. In the past few days a number of clubs have shown an interest in Regan, but as soon as Manchester United came in there was only really going to be one outcome,” Terry Butcher, manager of Newport County, said in the praise of the young Welsh, in the interview with club’s official site.
"He's still very young at 17. He's got the perfect stage to go and perform and the perfect place to learn. It is every boy's dream to play for Manchester United, and it's a wonderful opportunity for him to progress at such a magnificent club. It doesn't matter which country you are in, or where you are in the world, when Manchester United come calling you have to answer.”
With Poole’s arrival Manchester United have included two really promising teens, AS Monaco forward Anthony Maria, 19, who has become the most expensive teen player after his deal with the club and Poole.
