‘Postal’ Not Coming To Google Play
One of the most violent video games of the 1990s, “Postal,” will not be coming to the Google Play store anytime soon. “Postal” would reportedly not be allowed in the store due to the amount of blood, gore and gratuitous violence that is currently in the title.
The situation was revealed by the game’s developer Running with Scissors in one of the developer’s forums. Google Play didn’t give the developer the green light to sell the game in the Google Play store due to the aforementioned reason of gratuitous violence, despite the fact that certain titles like “Grand Theft Auto 3” and a huge amount of violent zombie games are currently on the Google Play store.
While the game won’t be coming to the premiere online store for Android games, the developer stated that there are other stores that sell games for Android users, so fans have nothing to worry about. In addition to that, the developer also reassured that “Postal 2: Paradise Lost” will still be coming to Steam next week on April 17 for PC gamers everywhere. It is an expansion pack of the 12-year-old sequel to the original “Postal.”
As noted by Eurogamer, a new age-rating system was recently introduced to the Google Play store last month. In keeping with the new system’s rules, it was stated in the Google support documentation that overly violent video games like “Postal” would not be permitted in the Google Play store, despite “Grand Theft Auto 3” still being in the online store.
Running with Scissors responded to the rejection by posting various images through Twitter. These include a meme of Robin Williams saying, “What year is it?” and a side-by-side comparison of “Postal” and “Grand Theft Auto,” showing that the store won’t allow “gratuitous violence” but will allow hookers to get run over by cars.
The developer doesn’t plan to give up on Android gamers, as it will be looking towards Humble Store and Amazon as a way to get the title to Android users. For now, it appears that gamers will have to wait for the upcoming Steam version.
