TV Drama Based On ‘Grand Theft Auto’ To Hit Screens In September
The popularity of Rockstar Games’ “Grand Theft Auto” has prompted BBC to create a new drama that’s said to be inspired by the game. The TV drama will reportedly premiere in September.
BBC has devised a creative initiative in introducing the world of digital technology, specifically on coding and programming, to children in the UK The new TV drama inspired by “Grand Theft Auto” is actually part of BBC’s “Make it Digital” campaign, which aims to “put digital creativity in the spotlight like never before and help build the nation’s digital skills.”
The campaign plans to introduce the modern technology of programming to the new generation of year 7 children across UK through a series of “new programmes, partnerships and projects.” Among these programmes are the famous “Doctor Who,” “Eastenders,” “Children in Need” and the “new BBC Two drama based on Grand Theft Auto.”
No further details, such as show dates and time, were provided for the “Grand Theft Auto” inspired TV drama. However, it’s believed to be one of the online contents from “Make It Digital” that will begin to appear from here on until it makes its “big audience moment” in September.
The new “Grand Theft Auto” BBC Two TV drama is expected to inspire the younger generation’s involvement in coding and digital technology. However, according to VG247, using the game as bases for one of the campaign’s online programmes somehow sounds “a little bizarre.” “Grand Theft Auto” is said to be intended for mature audiences, which directly contrasts with the initiative’s focus on younger audiences.
According to The Business Spectator, “Grand Theft Auto” is a “poster child for video game violence.” It consists of scenes not meant for younger audiences such as sex, mass-murder, robberies and gunplay.
However, the popularity of “Grand Theft Auto” has become such a phenomenon because of its open-world gameplay. This game design reportedly offers players the chance to do whatever they want in a virtual world. Additionally, it’s believed “GTA” has inspired other game developers to incorporate the open-world design to their respective games. Dubbed as the “grandfather” of open-world gameplay, “Grand Theft Auto” remains the highest ranking game on Metacritic.
