Prince George of Cambridge, the third in line to the throne, will be baptized by Archbishop of Canterbury on Oct. 23. This will be an intimate affair with only a handful of the couple's closest family and friends will witness the occasion at the Chapel Royal in St. James' Palace.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have set their own rules instead of being bound by royal tradition. One of these is choosing the Chapel Royal in place of Buckingham Palace, where the previous royals were christened.

The Palace stated the royal couple's choice is 'simply a case of personal preference,' reported Entertainment Wise.

Prince George has so many relatives but everyone will not be invited. "Prince William's aunts, Princess Anne and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, have been left off the guest list," reported The Daily Mail.

The royal child's great-uncles, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, were also reported to not be on the guest list.

Queen Elizabeth II will certainly be in attendance, as will her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, the Duchess' parents, Carole and Michael Middleton will also attend. Prince Harry and James and Pippa Middleton will be the godparents.

"We will announce the full guest list in due course when we are ready to do so," Kensington Palace told The Daily Mail.

Prince George's Christening Ceremony Details

The royal couple announced their plans for the christening in an official press release from Kensington Palace.

"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to announce the christening of Prince George will take place on Wednesday, 23rd October at The Chapel Royal, St James's Palace. Prince George will be christened by The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby."

Asked why the Princess Royal and the Countess of Wessex had not been invited, a spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would only say:

"We are not giving details of the guest list at this stage. All we are saying is that it will be a small intimate affair with close family and others, which include godparents."
