Prince Albert II of Monaco and his wife Princess Charlene’s twins are now 11 months old. Albert said that his son and daughter Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella are making good progress and are starting to take their first steps. The Monegasque royal was speaking about family life with Charlene in an interview with local publication Monaco Matin.

The principality will celebrate its National Day on Nov. 18. “(The twins) are doing very well, we have just celebrated their eleventh month and they will be with us on the balcony for the national holiday, if it isn’t too cold,” the 57-year-old sovereign said.

Talking about his kids, the doting father said that the twins were taking their first steps and trying to speak. Albert added that they want to express themselves, and so he speaks to them in French, Hello reports. However, he added that they were very playful and curious. Speaking about the toddlers' love for sport, Albert said that they already watched a little rugby and football on television with their parents and seemed to be really interested.

The National Day in Monaco will be a slightly more sombre affair than usual out of respect for victims of the Paris attacks, People reports. The prince has cancelled the traditional fireworks on the eve of the celebrations and at the weekend he ordered flags to be flown at half-mast on official buildings.

But, all the same it will give royals fans a chance to get a glimpse of the babies. The twins were last seen during the traditional picnic at Antoinette Park in the European principality in August, along with their proud parents. The adorable prince and princess were seen wearing similar traditional outfits. Both the twins had donned Dior Christening Gowns for their baptism.

Albert and Charlene married in a lavish three-day celebration in 2011. The prince met Charlene Wittstock, a former Olympic swimmer, when she took part in a championship in Monaco.
