Project Scorpio specs: Microsoft to reveal official hardware details
After Microsoft announced the Project Scorpio last year, reports about its specifications started surfacing online. The speculations will soon be confirmed or be debunked since leaks show that Microsoft plans on revealing the official specs of its upcoming console this week.
The Inner Circle posted on Twitter that Microsoft will announce the specs of Scorpio on Thursday. The user leaked that the information about the upcoming console will be released through Eurogamer and Digital Foundry.
Soon after the Inner Circle's tweet, Digital Foundry confirmed it through Twitter that Eurogamer will have an exclusive Xbox Scorpio reveal. It will reveal the specs of Microsoft's upcoming console on Thursday at 11:00 p.m. AEST/6:00 p.m. PST.
This shows how confident Microsoft is in letting others reveal the specs of the Xbox Scorpio. It will then provide deeper explanation about its console at the E3 2017 in June at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Project Scorpio in E3 2017
Xbox Chief Phil Spencer confirmed last month in "Unlocked" that was uploaded on YouTube that it will be difficult to talk about the console's hardware and software at E3. Spencer did not want the hardware details to steal the spotlight from the games so he allowed a third party to do it instead.
Although it is unsure what other details will be revealed on Thursday, Spencer already said that Scorpio will have a premium price tag. The Microsoft chief said the Xbox Scorpio and Xbox One S will have a huge price difference between them.
Microsoft has already included Xbox Scorpio on its official store but no details can be seen yet. It only allows interested consumers to sign up with their email addresses to receive an update once it launches.
According to Microsoft, Xbox Scorpio would be the "most powerful console ever with teraflops of graphical processing power." It would be the competitor against Sony's PlayStation Pro that is also capable of running 4K gaming and high-fidelity virtual reality.
Although it will be a new console released by Microsoft, Spencer ensured that all Xbox One games released will run smoothly on Xbox Scorpio. Microsoft will prioritise the release of first-party games before others so that its full capabilities would be utilised.
Upcoming games such as "Forza Motorposrt 7," "FIFA 18" and "Red Dead Redemption 2" are speculated to launch the same day as Project Scorpio. It will also allow users to play game titles that Microsoft has included in its Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Program.
