PS4 Companion: 4 Reasons Why the PS Vita Can Make a Comeback
The rumoured $500 PS4 and PS Vita bundle has been buzzing around, which brings people to a debate on whether or not this may be the chance for the PS Vita to happen as a trend.
In lieu of keeping things on a positive note, here are some ways that the PS Vita may actually be gearing up for a comeback, not just as a PS4 companion for remote play, but also as a handheld gaming device.
Expect Killzone: Mercenary, Fruit Ninja, and more
The PS Vita is looking at a very rich list of game releases, and it's not even all dependent on thePS4.
One of the popular mobile games, Fruit Ninja, from Half-brick has been confirmed to debut on the PS Vita will be arriving in August for the Sony device. Another title, an augmented reality-based game called Box! Open Me will also arrive at the same time.
Batman: Arkham Origins Black Gate will also be debuting on the PS Vita come October this year. And the much-awaited Killzone: Mercenary will also be making its debut on September, according to Just Push Start.
Even without the PS4, there is a great lineup of games that makes the PS Vita looking forward to already.
Nvidia Shield is gaining popularity
By any means, even with the explosion of mobile gaming devices, there is no shortage in the support and enjoyment of gamers in terms of handheld devices.
But the recent success of the Nvidia Shield shows that there is still a market for those who want to play their games remote or on a handheld device. This can even be said of Nintendo. Despite the dwindling sales of its gaming devices, the sale of its games for the 3DS has not exactly seen very bad numbers. If anything, the games have held the brunt of the profits-which goes to show that those who have the device still want to play games on it.
PS Vita makes use of the PS Cloud
Part of the most recent firmware update for the PS Vita is its addition of the PS Plus to the Live Area, which allows the PS Vita owner to easily save and manage data from the cloud.
In terms of its competition with the Xbox One, what can be seen as the PS4's biggest weakness would be its lack of a definitive, cloud-based system. Since next-generation gaming takes a jab at more advanced features, having the backing and access to cloud systems is a remarkable option, and something that the Xbox One has been trying to market ever since.
The PS Vita may not be the only (or the best) way to do this, but it is a step that can do two things at once: showcase the PS Cloud in a more concrete manner and bundle the PS Vita and PS4 as a true tandem to next-gen gaming.
Rumoured price cuts
Officially, there has been no word from Sony in terms of plans of cutting the PS Vita's price with the upcoming release of the PS4. But there have been hints of this happening even long before.
One of the earlier rumours suggested the PS Vita to be priced at $199. Based on various reports, a timed price cut running from August 18 to 24 at Target will showcase the PS Vita at a $199 price tag.
This is almost a $50 to $100 discount from its original price, as Into Mobile states that the Wi-Fi only version of the game system is sold at $250 while the 3G version is up for $300.
Cutting down the price of the PS Vita is a good selling tactic, and even though not a lot of people believe that this is a chance for the PS Vita to regain traction, promoting it as a companion of the PS4 is one of the better ways to revive the device.
