Sony Computer Entertainment has officially launched PlayStation4 in Australia, midnight of Nov. 29 at a retail price of $549.95.

With low supply and high demand, retailers claimed that despite getting more PS4 consoles before Christmas, stock level was still low. What exactly was wrong with Dick Smith's Midnight Launch?

There are several aspects where the PS4 Midnight Launch seemed off as pointed out in a report by kotaku.com.

First, there was a sudden announcement of an additional 300 brand new consoles. The console shortage was apparently the first time when retailers had been flooded with pre-orders and those who were not able to make an order before November pretty much lost their chance to get their hands on a PS4 console. Then, Dick Smith suddenly announced that it has 300 brand new PS4s for those who missed the chance to pre-order.

Second, a competition was held for the additional 300 consoles. You have to write what game you are looking forward to play on PS4 and why. But the prize is not a brand new PS4, but a "right to buy" a brand new PS4.

Third, you have to like Dick Smith on Facebook first, not to enter the competition, but to find out how you can enter the competition.

Fourth, the winners will not be announced in advance. You have to go to the launching in Sydney Thursday night and wait for the announcement of winners.

The midnight launch had been dubbed as unfair, not only to those who pre-ordered but cannot be accommodated by retail stores, but also to those who had to travel to the city only to go home empty-handed.

Dick Smith said they wanted to celebrate the PS4 launching with a massive party when asked for the rationale behind the event.

"We wanted to give everyone who missed out on a pre-order the first time around to be given a second chance," said Dick Smith's representative.
