PS4 Exclusive ‘God Of War III Remastered’ Announced And Dated, First Footage Released
As part of a celebration marking the 10th anniversary of the release of “God of War,” Sony has confirmed that its Santa Monica studio is gearing up to release a full-HD remaster of “God of War III,” for the PlayStation 4. The announcement came during a developer-hosted speed-run event held live on Twitch and states that “God of War III Remastered” will be released on July 14.
Confirmation of the remaster comes via the PlayStation Blog, which sees “God of War II” director Cory Barlog reflect on the series’ 10-year history. Barlog returned to Santa Monica Studio in 2013 after departing, following the conclusion of his work on “God of War II.”
“This action packed thrill ride of a game will take series newcomers and regulars alike on a retina-popping thrill ride filled to the absolute brim with 1080p gameplay, silky smooth combat, earth-shaking weapons, bosses you simply have to face to believe, and an all-new new photo mode so you can share those most tender of God of War moments, like stabbing a Minotaur in the frickin face, with your friends and loved ones. I highly recommend everyone grab a copy and play because whether you are new to the series or Spartan veterans, ‘God of War III Remastered’ is one damn fine game,” he said.
A trailer, hosted on the official PlayStation YouTube channel shows off the first footage of the updated game. Remastered in full-HD at 1080p, the developers are targeting a 60fps refresh and state during the Twitch live stream that the game was always intended to be played this way. The remaster will see all DLC costumes and content from the original “God of War III” included and will feature a new Photomode, allowing gamers to capture and share their favourite moments.
Despite the trailer’s retrospective recap of 10 years of “God of War” history, DualShockers states that Santa Monica Studio has no intention of working on any further remasters for the “God of War” franchise. As reported by Polygon in December, the studios’ efforts are instead focused on the future, specifically the next entry in the “God of War” franchise, as confirmed by Cory Barlog himself.
The announcement of “God of War III Remastered” helps bolster Sony’s currently anaemic lineup of confirmed releases for the rest of the year. Sony currently has no major first-party releases with a confirmed release date after the March 31 release of “MLB 15: The Show.” “God of War III Remastered” will be released exclusively on PS4, on July 14.
