PS4 News: More Details on Don’t Starve Together, Possible Crash Bandicoot Comeback and Project Morpheus-PS Vita Integration
Ever since the success of Naughty Dog's "The Last of Us," people have been wondering if the studio, responsible for the 90s favorite "Crash Bandicoot," will be coming back soon with that franchise for the PS4.
After all, big favorites such as "Uncharted 4: The Thief's End" is heading to the PS4 in 2015, and Sony's next-gen console is fast becoming a hub for AAA games, indie games, and old favorites to fuel its lifespan and maintain its lead in the console wars.
The debate for whether or not the fan favorite will actually find its way back to the PlayStation has been the focus of speculation, some of which are hindered by the fact that Activision still holds the rights despite news that the site bearing the "Crash Bandicoot' franchise has been brought down.
But in the latest interview with Telegraph, Sony's Andrew House does state outright that they are not closing the opportunity for a "Crash Bandicoot" or even a "Spyro" comeback.
"In concept, it is something we've been thinking about and discussing, and this is a shift for us," he said to Telegraph when asked if a "Crash Bandicoot" or "Spyro" revival is still at all possible.
"We've started to say that maybe there isn't anything wrong with going back and looking at characters that people still talk about, that were a big part of either their childhood or their youth. I definitely wouldn't close the door on that."
'Don't Starve Together" Gives a Spin on Multiplayer
One of the PS4's biggest indie games to date, "Don't Starve" from Klei Entertainment, will be getting a multiplayer component. It's an interesting take on multiplayer, because "Don't Starve Together" allows you to grief each other as ghosts once you are killed by a friend or be revived at some point.
"Lag aside, we were able to play with 15 people! That's really exciting for us. We're still not sure what the largest server size that we can support is--honestly, it may end up being smaller than 15--but this is a promising start. Additionally, we played on a dedicated server. There's still some work to be done to make that work without any hacks, but that's also a big win," said the developers over at the Klei Entertainment forums.
Most of the details are still in development, with even the mechanics still being experimented on by the developers. But there is already a prototype footage for "Don't Stave Together" as seen below.
Project Morpheus and the PS Vita: Compatibility Confirmed
Sony's Project Morpheus has been tagged mostly with the PS4 in terms of functionality, giving the PS4 an edge as the exclusive console to have access to Project Morpheus. But it seems that Sony has more plans for its virtual reality headset, and it may be in the direction of strengthening the PS4 and PS Vita ultimate gaming companion consoles.
VR Focus reports that the PS Vita has been confirmed as compatible with the Project Morpheus. Quoting a statement delivered during Develop Conference at Brighton from Ian Bickerstaff, the technical director at SCEE Immersive Technology Group that the PS Vita will function much like a tablet. Those who are working on the project is already making use of the Ps Vita in relation to the Project Morpheus.
In essence, the apps that will be compatible with the Project Morpheus will also work on the PS Vita, as it will be mimicking the way social experience and functionality works with smart devices.
The Project Morpheus continues to be a work in progress over at Sony, where release dates of any sort has not yet been announced or confirmed.
