PS4 Silver Version and White ‘Metal Gear Solid 5’ Console Showcased as PlayStation Now Beta Debuts on PS3
There have been a number of exclusive PS4 designs and versions shown off so far, and even a glacier white PS4 console that has previously been bundled with "Destiny" and announced to be sold as a standalone console. Now it's time to take a look at the silver PS4 set to release with "Dragon Quest Heroes."
Over at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony has showcased the PS4 console with a silver slime on top of it. DualShockers has obtained screenshots and a short video, seen below.
The silver limited edition PS4 console was announced for the upcoming "Dragon Quest Heroes," but it appears to be heading only for Japan. According to The Verge, the console is meant to boost sales in the PS4's home territory, considering that the game is one of the biggest to hit Japan since the series was first released. The iconic slime pretty much seals the deal.
"Dragon Quest Heroes" is coming out next spring in Japan, so the limited edition PS4 may also be released around that time. Square Enix is yet to announce any possible launch plans of the silver PS4 outside Japan.
The White 'Metal Gear' PS4 And The 2014 Collection
When developer Konami introduced the "Metal Gear" Collection 2014, not a lot of people were expecting to see a clothing line inspired by the title. But aside from the clothing line, the white "Metal Gear Solid 5" edition PS4 was also showcased.
IGN features a snapshot of the white PS4, which game director Hideo Kojima had teased a few weeks back. The question is whether or not fans will give the same positive reception that they did to the clothing line when the thought of a "Metal Gear Collection 2014" related to games was first teased.
PlayStation Now Open Beta Arrives on PS3
With PS4 users having enjoyed their time using the PlayStation Now, PS3 users now have a shot at the cloud streaming, Gaikai-based service, particularly in the area of U.S. mainland and some areas in Canada. Sony has announced via the PlayStation Blog that the Open Beta will now be available, so that PS3 users can play games without the need for installing or downloading them.
The PS Now database of games has already expanded to include over 150 titles, with three more games slated to join the growing library of games. These are "God of War: Ascension," "inFamous" and "Ultra Street Fighter IV," the last of which has just been recently released.
Sony has not yet given any word as to whether or not they will change the pricing scheme. The PlayStation now has been criticized as having exorbitant rental fees that gamers can't seem to appreciate. The only clue for the PS3 Open Beta is that there is now a reduction in price for select four-hour rental games and that games are up for rent for $7 a week. But there is another bit of good news.
"We are still working towards a PS Now subscription option," John Koller, VP of platforms marketing in SCEA, said via the PlayStation Blog.
