Queen Elizabeth II To Hold A Street Party For 90th Birthday
Queen Elizabeth II is bound to have a remarkable and memorable 90th birthday, according to reports. Early preparations are said to already be underway for the monarch’s street party celebration.
Buckingham Palace has announced that Queen Elizabeth, who is turning 90 in 2016, will celebrate her birthday among 10,000 invited guests at The Mall in St. James’ Park in London. A street party to honour the monarch’s 63 years of service to the British community will be held on the road leading up to Buckingham Palace.
The celebration will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016. Invited guests from the hundreds of charities Queen Elizabeth supports, will have the chance to enjoy hamper-style lunches placed on tables that will fill the whole stretch of The Mall. According to Mirror UK, these tables will be decorated with the royal family’s customary Union Jack flags.
Entertainment is promised to accompany the celebration. The Telegraph said that through a ballot system few members of the public can get the chance to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday along with the 10,000 guests.
The man behind this street party birthday celebration is Peter Philips, the queen’s eldest grandchild. He said he wanted to relieve that outpouring of love and support Queen Elizabeth II received during the Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee celebration, so decided to have The Mall party.
“Staging this street party on The Mall will be a fantastic way to celebrate and honour a lifetime of service from Her Majesty The Queen, and a brilliant showcase of all things British,” he said.
Philips revealed that Queen Elizabeth is also more than thrilled to celebrate her 90th birthday with a bang. The monarch has reportedly been kept abreast on the developments of the planning through her office.
“I've had the chance to talk to her (about it) she's been excited by it,” Peter Philips added.
The non-profit street party will culminate the three-day celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday. Celebrations officially start on June 10 with a thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral followed by the customary Trooping the Colour event on June 11.
