Razer Edge Tablet Review: Most Powerful, Best Tablet for Gamers? Pre-Orders OK Mar.1 [PHOTOS]

Razer Edge is being promoted as the "world's first tablet designed for PC gamers." The statement makes a lot of promise, especially since Razer, Inc. has branded itself as a company comprised of gamers. Pre-orders for this Windows 8 device begin March 1. Many gamers are now wondering whether it's worth trying the promising tablet.

Razer CEO Talks Design Obsession

Min-Liang Tan, Co-Founder, CEO and Creative Director at Razer, said he completes his design by "obsessively iterating the smallest details." The Edge packs under the hood Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, Nvidia's GT 640M LE, and up to 8GB of RAM. Any gamer would be drawn to such sweet specs and try them at the ultimate high settings. But the question is, how much battery juice does this tablet need?

IGN Entertainmet was able to try out the Edge at the CES event in January. It said the gaming tablet "delivered great performance" in various configurations.

The most basic Edge allows 64GB of storage for a $999 price tag. That price is for 4GB of RAM, Intel's Core i5 processor, 64GB of SSD storage, and Nvidia's GT 640M LE chip. The 128GB and 256GB Razer Edge Pro variants appear to be quite pricey at $1,299 and $1,499, respectively.

"It is, in fact, the most powerful tablet on the market," IGN noted. But the entertainment review site pointed out, the great power comes with great price. "Edge's emphasis on performance has come at the cost of battery life and affordability. Razer has quoted the Edge at roughly one hour of battery life when playing games without the aid of a power cord or extended battery and roughly four to six hours for regular use," IGN reported.

Some of the accessories Edge users would need for extended or full entertainment include a spare battery, a docking station, side-mounted controllers, and a transforming keyboard.
