Apple will reportedly focus on two major "products" in the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference this June. According to recent information, the Cupertino-based company will highlight changes and updates to its iOS and OS X offerings. Specifically, Apple will focus on what the iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 can offer this June. With the two updates in line for a release, a look back at what these firmware offered users previously and what to expect should provide more insight if people should update to them or not. What can people expect?

The annual Apple WWDC commences in June. Should Apple follow its usual timeline then people should hear about the iOS 8 in the event's keynote. According to a report by CNET, it will also signify the seventh year of the iPhone series. Previously in 2007, the operating system of the iPhone did not come by as "iOS." During that time, Apple claimed the device was only running on an OS X edition for the handset. It was referred to as the iPhone OS.

The operating system at that time came with the standard apps like the Mail, Safari, Notes and Maps among others. It was the iPhone OS 3.0 that started pushing the idea that the smartphone operating system was something different. So far the following features have been reported about the upcoming iOS 8:

  • Game Center - the Game Center has not been as relevant throughout the years. According to a report by Digital Trends, Apple may do away with this application. It should also emphasize Apple's focus on providing better user experience.
  • iCloud - according to the Healthbook preview, the leaked iOS screenshots show what the Preview and TextEdit features may come with. It appears Apple wants to transform the iCloud as a medium to view and store files. However, the two applications would be in read-only mode.
  • App Sharing API - app designers previously complained that despite increased functionality, their software finds it difficult to gain access. Developer given access to more updated SDK versions pointed out easier date access and app commands.

Other noted improvements include an independent iTunes Radio, improved SIri and new notifications system.

According to MacWorld, Apple plans to demonstrate the new features of the Mac OS X 10.10 during Tim Cook's Keynote speech at the 2014 WWDC. The report noted Apple's plans on introducing a flatter design integrating more of the iOS appeal to the Mac operating system.

9to5Mac's Mark Gurman said that Apple wants to give the Mac OS X 10.10 a larger presence compared to the iOS 8. The operating system should come with an end-to-end design similar to the changed introduced to the iOS 7 in the previous year.
