Rihanna concert cancelled following terrorist attack in Nice
Singer reported “safe” despite panic in the city
Rihanna’s Friday concert in Allianz Riviera Stadium was cancelled after at least 80 people died in a late night terrorist attack in Nice on French National Day.
Nice City Mayor Christian Estrosi announced on Twitter the cancellation of Rihanna’s 8 p.m. concert and the city’s jazz festival as he ordered the city flags to be raised half-mast in view of the tragedy.
Various media outlet reported that the “This is What You Came For” singer was present in Nice during the terrorist attack. Rihanna’s representatives assured fans that the artist is “safe” and people are trying to get her out of the city as soon as possible.
Rihanna’s Friday night concert in Nice is part of the European leg of her Anti World Tour. The music tour commenced last March 12 in North America. She is set to perform next in Frankfurt, Germany, on July 17.
Rihanna’s concert in Nice is the third show that was cancelled under the Anti World Tour. The previous cancellations were in Cardiff, Wales last June 17 and in Sunderland, England, last June 18.
At least 80 people, including children, were killed and 18 others were left critically injured after an unidentified man drove a white truck into a crowd gathered along Promenade des Anglais at 10:30 p.m. Thursday in France just after the beachfront fireworks display. Over 100 people were injured due to the incident, which prompted President Francois Hollande to extend the country’s state of emergency for another three months.
