"RIP Facebook " Trends in Australia
RIP Facebook is now trending on Twitter shout outs from Australia. The earliest tweet with the phrase seemed to have been posted on May 23, but others only became active in tweeting the phrase today.
Since Facebook introduced Timeline to its users, the move has been widely criticized, with some users making desperate attempts to stick to the social network's old 'wall' format. These users make their thoughts known by using the same social network that they are criticizing. For example, Facebook group TimelineHaters was started up in April, and it now has over 20 thousand 'likes.'
Is Facebook dead? If so, who is mourning?
Despite plenty of criticisms that surface every time Facebook makes changes to the way it operates, uses and displays information, the social network does not seem to be ready for a funeral.
Those who are supposed to mourn Facebook's death seem to be active in working out ways to make more money with the social network and its users. Fresh from his IPO entry, this report is saying that the newly-married Mark Zuckerberg is toying with the idea of launching a Facebook smartphone.
What are Facebook users complaining about?
The "RIP Facebook" tweets hint what users dislike about Facebook. For one, they dislike that the social network still has no dislike button. Twitter user @HumorOrTruth tweeted:
"RIP Facebook. Cause of death: Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Spam, and adding everything to it except a dislike button."
(It must be noted here that Facebook has bought Instagram.)
The death of Facebook, whether imminent, real or wished, seems to be related to how the social network is being used by its users. Twitter user @GAFollowers said:
"Twitter makes you love people you've never met; Facebook makes you hate people you've known your whole life. RIP Facebook"
