Samsung Galaxy S4 users who have updated to the KitKat firmware can also root their devices via XXUGNE5 Android 4.4.2 specifically Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 to XXUGNE5. The latest software XXUGNE5 Android 4.4.2 KitKat offers a number of Samsung Galaxy S5 features to the S4. Users are advised to read up more on rooting before proceeding to the process.

It is best for users to back up all important information and settings. Rooting can erase all data on the handset although afterward it will allow people install root apps on the device. It is also best to understand that providers of the update cannot be held responsible for what happens to the device following update. Users can root and update at their own risk.

Important Note: The CF-Auto-Root tutorial provided caters to Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 models running on Qualcomm Snapdragon Quad-Core CPU with LTE. It cannot be used on models like the GT-I9500 running on Exynos 5. According to Team Android, root refers to the process of combining Samsung stock firmware. Important reminds before rooting the device:

  • USB debugging mode should be enabled in the device.
  • Battery level should be at 80-85% to avoid power interruptions. Power interruptions may lead to a bricked phone.

Steps on how to root:

1. Save the Samsung Galaxy S4 CF-Auto-Root Android 4.4.2 Package on a computer. Extract content from the zip file.

2. Save ODIN v3.09. This will assist the user to root the device later.

3. Turn off the phone. Hold the Home and Volume Down buttons together to switch the device to Download Mode. Press the Power button until the Android logo shows up. Press the power button once more to confirm access.

4. See to it all USB drivers are installed in the computer.

5. Access ODIN on the computer. Connect the device to the computer. Wait for the ID:COM box to become yellow along with the COM port number. This may take a few minutes.

6. Choose the file to flash or install on the device.

7. Select 'PDA' and choose 'CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.zip'.

8. Under ODIN, select Auto Reboot and F. Check if time options have been reset. Do so if not.

9. Click start to begin the installation process.

10. The handset will reboot to Recovery Mode after installation. Install the root files. Check if the ID:COM box turned green.

11. Disconnect the device from the computer.
