Scotland are looking to cement their place in the quarter final round of the 2015 Rugby World Cup as they face Samoa in Pool B of the tournament on Saturday at St James Park.

Scotland are just one win away from securing their berth in the last-eight round of the RWC, a feat the Scots have not done since 2007. However, Samoa are expected to go all out in their Pool B match at the quadrennial rugby tournament, with the Pacific Islanders desperate to lift their spirits and restore national pride against Scotland.

A win for Scotland during the weekend would mean an RWC quarterfinal fixture with either Australia or Wales, who will also slug it out on Oct. 10 to determine the top team in the “Pool of Death.” If Scotland lose or draw, they could be leapfrogged by Japan, one of the tournament’s surprise team.

Vern Cotter’s side bowed against South Africa with a 34-16 defeat on Saturday, but the Scots have claimed bonus-point victories over Japan and USA. Samoa, meanwhile, were toppled by Japan in their recent outing with a 26-5 defeat.

Scotland prop Gordon Reid believes the team has the physicality to overcome Samoa and secure a slot into the next round of the tournament, expecting the Samoans to come at them with full force.

"They have a big physical pack who play straight rugby pretty similar to South Africa, so hopefully we will wear them down and our physicality will come through and get us the win," Reid said, reports the BBC. "But there are a lot of areas we have to look at, and we have to make sure we learn from last week and do some things differently to make sure they go right.”

Meanwhile, Samoa would try to use restoring national pride as the motivation on Saturday’s clash against the Scots. Assistant coach Alama Ieremia said Samoa is playing with a lot of pride and is treating the match against Scotland a huge game as the Pacific Islanders try to end this year’s tournament on a high note.

"Certainly we want to start better and make a contest out of it, otherwise you’re chasing a game and teams in the World Cup are too good to pull back,” Ieremia said, reports World Rugby. “We’ve been looking at Scotland since before we came to this tournament.”

Samoa currently sit at fourth place in Pool B, but if they beat Scotland and earn a bonus point, and the USA beat Japan and do not concede a bonus point, the Samoans will end third and gain automatic qualification for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
