Apple's mid-range plastic iPhone 5C and high end iPhone5S will have to fight against various competitors this December, from the Lumia 1020 to the Galaxy Note 3 to the HTC One and Galaxy S4. Another big competitor is the highly anticipated Nexus 5 that will replace the Nexus 4.
Design
The iPhone 5S has the same general design as the iPhone 5, which comes with a superb industrial design made of metal and glass. It measures 7.6mm thin and weighs 112 grams that makes for an extremely compact phone that easily fits hands and pockets. Though there is a fingerprint reader in the home button, the design has no removable back and expandable storage.
According to leaks, the LG Nexus 5 design differs from the Nexus 4 and iPhone 5S as it will have a matte black material that resembles Nexus 7's sleek back. If Google slimmed down from the Nexus 7 design, this is surely a lightweight and slim device. The Nexus 5 doesn't have a microSD card slot and a removable back as well.
Display
iPhone 5S still has the 4-inch Retina Display that boasts of 1136x640 resolution at 326 pixels per inch. It still ranks as the best on the market, taking beautiful videos, photos, etc.
Nexus 5 on the other hand is rumored to have a near 5-inch display that offers 1920 x 1080 resolution with 441 pixels per inch. It's on par with the Galaxy S4 and HTC One.
Specs
Apple upped the ante as it changed the new iPhone's processor and camera, upgrading it to 8MP sensor and A7 chip that offers a 64-bit support. The slow motion, true tone flash, larger aperture and pixels, Burst shooting mode, faster focus and auto image stabilization offer bigger advantages. It can now shoot high quality videos and photos in low light settings. Speed on the iPhone 5s surely won't be an issue with its upgraded chip and processor. It still comes with 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB storage variants.
Nexus 5 is equipped with a Snapdragon 88 quad-core processor that can perform well but won't feature a 64-bit support. It has an 8MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization and rumour has it that Nexus 5 has 16GB and 32GB models with a 2,300mAh battery. iPhone 5S has a 1570mAh battery, which is almost the same.
Software
iPhone 5S runs the new iOS 7 which offers a new look that goes with new features such as overhauled notifications, a new camera app, AirDrop and Control Center, etc.
