Such plan would directly rival the International Space Station (ISS) which is a joint project between various countries such as the United States, Russia and some European states that aim to make the nations work together. Based on News Australia, ISS was launched in 1998 and acts as a livable satellite environment where in its members can conduct research, experiments and spacecraft system testing which are required for space explorations to the Moon and Mars.

Moscow has revealed that it does not believe that the ISS will have a successful long term future, given the fact that the ties between Washington and Ukraine has collapsed. Washington plans to keep the $100 billion ISS in use until at least 2024, four years beyond the previous target. But a Russian government official revealed that Moscow would reject Washington's request to prolong its operations.

According to Roscosmos head Oleg Ostapenko, building their very own space station will be helpful in the much needed progress. He also stated that this kind of space station would play a vital role when it comes to the missions that Russia will be conducting to send its astronauts to the moon.

While Russia is battling the upcoming economic crisis and recession, it is not yet clear how the country will provide means on financing such expensive project. The Russian space station which was launched in 1986 by the Soviet Union went to operation until 2001. Russia's president Vladimir Putin now seeks to bring reforms to the country's space industry so that it can progress, despite having suffered setbacks in terms of brain drain, costly failed launches, and budget cuts, Yahoo! News reports.

NASA has also shown concern over Russia's plan to put up its own space station. The United States government agency revealed its plan to bring back human spaceflight launches to American grounds. The space agency assured the public that it will go as planned even ending reliance on Russia to get into space.

Meanwhile, the International Space Station has presented crew from over 15 various countries and has come to embody global unity. And with the huge sums of money necessary to conduct activities of space research it makes a great deal of sense for international collaboration.
