Ryan Corr Owns Up To Last Year's Drug Bust, Now Moving On With Second Chance
A year after the police found him at Bondi with a bag of heroin, actor Ryan Corr said he has now moved on and is making the most of his career. Putting the drug bust that placed his life and acting career in jeopardy behind him, he talked about the new projects he had been working on since then.
The 26-year-old was charged with possession of the illegal substance when he was caught hitting up on heroin in a laneway at Bondi last year. He was granted a Section 10 dismissal, which meant his criminal conviction will not be recorded and that he could still chase jobs in the U.S. Corr, grateful for the miraculous second chance, has since then became more focused on his work, throwing himself into new projects that further boosted his career, The Daily Telegraph reported.
First known in television drama “Packed to the Rafters,” Corr now stars in “Banished,” BBC’s first period epic that revolves around the aboriginal history of Australia. Although the series faced criticism for its accuracy, Corr was only defended his show, saying that the people “have gone the wrong angle on what they’re attacking.” Meanwhile, he recently finished the film adaptation of the hit book and play “Holding the Man,” where he plays lead role Timothy Conigrave. Corr said that this was possibly the best work he has done, sharing that it was one of the first plays he ever saw when he came to drama school. He remembered wanting to play the part when he gets older and has been chasing the role ever since.
Considering last year’s drama as a big wake-up call, Corr says that he has been doing really well and has only kept going forward. However, according to News.com.au, Corr’s celebrity manager and publicity guru Karen Eck said that despite the lack of any real professional consequences and the upsurge of Corr’s projects, she still believes that there is a lot to do to repair his image and public sentiment since the bust up. Corr will of course still face questions about the bullet he narrowly missed, and admits that he does not have any control over what people would say about him, especially that his life as a celebrity places him all over the media. He is, however, willing to deal with it as he is not wasting the second chance given to him. “I had a mistake that occurred in my life and I own that, I stand by that,” he said.
