Sam Fisher returns in latest 'Ghost Recon Wildlands' update
The Splinter Cell/Ghost Recon crossover has officially been confirmed by Ubisoft. After disappearing from the public eye for five years, Sam Fisher has finally returned, albeit in a different game.
Ubisoft teased the crossover last weekend. Now, the developer has finally announced that Fisher from the “Splinter Cell” series is making an appearance in “Ghost Recon: Wildlands.”
The man himself appears in a new mission that comes with the Special Operations update. The update is free and will be available today.
Special Operations is the first of four planned updates for the game’s second year. The update, which will be playable in solo or in co-op modes, sees Fisher infiltrating a guarded camp. Those who finish the mission before May 2 will receive special items like the character's iconic night-vision goggles.
"We are all super-excited to bring such an iconic character as Sam Fisher into Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands," Nouredine Abboud, Senior Producer, Ubisoft Paris, said in a statement. "Teaming up with Sam Fisher will require the Ghosts' stealth, cleverness and tactics. We can't wait to see the reactions of our players as they face this new challenge!"
Additions that come with Special Operations I include a new Echelon assault class for the Ghost War PVP mode and new goodies for customising playable characters.
Perhaps one of the most exciting parts of the crossover is Michael Ironside’s return as the voice of Sam Fisher. Ironside last lent his voice for “Splinter Cell: Blacklist,” which released in 2013.
Ubisoft has also announced a free weekend for “Ghost Recon: Wildlands.” The entire game will be free starting April 12 to 15, most likely US time. Here, players will gain access to Special Operations I as well.
Released in 2017, “Ghost Recon: Wildlands” is a tactical shooter for PS4, Xbox One and PC. This and the “Splinter Cell” franchise both share the Tom Clancy branding.
