Samsung Galaxy Gear Hits Fashion Show to Get Some Glam On
The Samsung Galaxy Gear and Note 3 were showcased at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City. Lorenz's FALLON Spring/Summer 2014 fashion show featured models with accessories for the devices.
Marketing executives must be working overtime to bring its customers this unique collaboration with jewellery designer Dana Lorenz. The newly launched Samsung Galaxy Gear got some glamour quotient at the event.
According to a press release by Samsung, the company was attracted to the glam-punk style of Dana Lorenz. The collaboration was later formed to bring the innovations from the company with a "premium design."
The market has still not warmed up to the concept of a smart watch, according to some analysts and the marketing push for the Galaxy Gear at the event could help the devices be perceived as a premium.
"Consumers today view their mobile devices not as utilities but as extensions of their personal style" said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics.
Dana Lorenz has created stud charms as accessories for the Samsung Galaxy Gear. The accessories can be put on the adjustable band on the device. She has also created fashionable carrying cases for the Note 3.
"With the accessories I've created for the GALAXY Note 3 and GALAXY Gear, I want to give them high fashion along with this new mobile experience" said Dana Lorenz
The Samsung Galaxy Gear is a wearable smart watch. It allows users to make and receive calls, send and receive text messages and a host of other features. The device links seamlessly to the Note 3.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear will face stiff competition in the smart watch market. Sony already has smart watch with other companies like Microsoft and Nissan reportedly coming out with their own smart watch.
Arguably, Samsung's biggest rival Apple will be coming out with the much anticipated iWatch and traditional watch makers like Casio are expected to respond to the new challenge.
A lot will depend on the success or failure of the Samsung Galaxy Gear with market analysts closely following the response for the device in the market.
