Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a very powerful device running Android 4.1.1 Jelly bean which can be upgraded to version 4.1.2. The device is powered by four-core processors with 1.6GHz clock speed, 2GB of RAM, holds up to 16, 32, or 64 GB of internal storage depending on the user upon purchase, and support an additional 64GB using a microSD card. It also feature a Super AMOLED HD screen with 5.5-inches in size, boosted by TouchWiz UI for smooth response, and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2 against scratches.

All of these features combined with the S Pen and 8MP rear camera shooter, Galaxy Note 2 can deliver great multitasking and versatility. However, it is not a perfect device and shouldn't be pushed to limits often or your Galaxy Note 2 will become slow and drain its battery faster. For users who want to maintain the device to optimum performance, here are three quick guides dealing with Battery Life, Memory Management, and DIY Data/Internet Troubleshooting.

Maximize the Battery Life

1. Galaxy Note 2 has a built-in battery manager and users should become familiar with it. To do view the Battery Manager, go to Settings > Battery. Everything which consumes battery is displayed here. Applications consuming huge amount of battery is advised to be removed unless frequently used.

2. If the average battery life suddenly changes after installing a new application, consider removing it. Poorly written apps can affect overall battery life.

3. Avoid third-party apps such as "task killers" or "battery managers." Most of them do more harm than prevent it.

4. Galaxy Note 2 has a 5.5-inch display screen using Super AMOLED technology which is great for viewing images and videos. But even it's an OLED; the size itself can drain more battery. Adjust the brightness and timeout to save more energy. Go to the notifications bar > select Display > select Brightness > select Automatic Brightness. Turn off Smart Stay feature if it's not in use.

5. Turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Auto-sync if they are not in use. Hold down the notifications bar to disable them and activate the Power Saving mode which will make the device conserve energy under low battery state.

6. Limit background applications which do not require any updates. Go to Settings > Data Usage and then scroll down to view applications consuming a lot data in the background. To turn off data background, check the "Restrict Data Background." The less applications consuming data in the background, the more battery power is saved.

7. Depending on how much you use the Galaxy Note 2, it is recommended to bring your charger.

Memory Management

1. Galaxy Note 2 has a huge storage space and lots of multitasking power but never push the device to its limits often or the overall performance can be compromised.

2. Keep at least 10 to 20 per cent of the internal storage for optimal performance. Go to Settings > Storage and view the details of data files consuming the device's storage. Consider transferring files to a computer or other storage devices to free up the internal memory.

3. Remove applications that are unnecessary and not being used at all. They will only eat space and consume power. Go to Settings > Application manager > then select the application you want to remove.

4. Clear cache files of the most commonly used applications to free up space. Go to Settings > Application manager > choose the application > Clear Cache.

5. Call logs and messages can slow down the device; clearing them out regularly is advisable. Limit the text messages count per thread as well to allow messaging app to perform auto-delete.

6. Daily reboot of Galaxy Note 2 gives its RAM a fresh start and significantly increases performance. Hold the Power key and select Restart.

7. Disable Live Wallpapers if it causes the device to lag and use still ones for better and smooth performance.

8. Use Wi-Fi network if available and when closing applications. Use the Back key instead the Home key. Most programs close with the Back key, Home key will put them to standby. To manually close all active applications, hold the Home key and select the Task Manager to review all active applications. You can clear the memory by selecting it in the RAM manager.

9. As last resort to clear up cache, hold the Power key and select Power off. Hold down the Power, Volume Up, and Home key, once the phone vibrates let go of the Power key. Once the phone loads to recovery mode, let go of the other keys. Select "Wipe cache partition" using the Power key, use the volume keys to navigate. After the wipe, use the Power key to reboot the device.

Fixing Data/Internet Connection Problem

1. Check the device settings for data connection. Go to Settings > Wireless and Network > More Settings. Make sure that the "Airplane Mode" is not checked, after that go to "Mobile Networks" and verify that "Mobile data" is checked. 3. Open the Browser to clear up history, cache, and cookies. To do this, inside the Browser press the Menu key then select Settings. Under the Privacy and security, click "Clear Cache", "Clear History", and "Clear Cookies".

4. Remove all recently installed applications right before the problem occurred and uninstall third party "task killers" or "battery managers".

5. Restart the device.

6. If none of this works, contact your network carrier for technical support.
