Hybrid devices are nothing new in the tech market. This time, the fusion of smartphone and tablet is the new trend for some mobile phone manufacturer.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is rumored to be set for release next month, keeping tech enthusiasts on the lookout on what this device will bring. Its predecessor has set the ball rolling as new hybrid devices are entering the market and intensify the competition.

LG and HTC are the two companies that will participate in the "phablet" wars, with the introduction of LG Optimus Vu 2 and HTC Phablet.

"Phablet" and other hybrid devices have been a laughing stock in the tech market. However, a team led by ABI Research predicts the market to reach 208 million devices by 2015.

"More than 208 million phablets like the Samsung Galaxy Note, will be shipped globally by 2015," the marketing research firm recently said.

Below are the summaries of the rumored features of the three hybrid devices.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

The new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is expected to come with 1280 x 720 or 1680 x 1050 pixels resolution for its 5.5-inch AMOLED display, 1.5GB of RAM, 12-megapixel or 13-megapixel camera and 4G LTE connectivity.

Last week, leaked benchmarks suggest that highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note 2 may be faster than the Galaxy S3. The leaked data revealed that Galaxy Note 2 will be equipped with 1.6 GHz quad core Exynos 4412 processor with Mali-400 graphics.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will be powered Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich although it is rumored that it will be equipped with the recently release Android Jelly Bean. Another rumored specification of the device HD Super AMOLED Plus screen with a regular RGB matrix, which is a welcomed spec for the Galaxy Note 2.

LG Optimus Vu 2

Another Korean tech company introduced its own version of hybrid device. The LG Optimus Vu already made its way in the market. However, unconfirmed rumors revealed that LG is already working on the successor of Optimus Vu to battle head on with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Some of the rumored features are will sport 5-inch display with a 1024 x 768 panel, run by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The device is speculated to be powered by dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset, which could also imply compatibility with 4G LTE networks. Thus, this may mean that it will support 4G connectivity for faster browsing.

HTC "Phablet"

HTC is also reported to be planning to release its own "phablet" device. Some of the rumored features and specifications include a 5-inch 1080p HD non-pentile display, which is slightly smaller than that of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The device will be powered by quad-core Qualcomm Krait CPU, Adreno 320 GPU,

The device will also be equipped with HTC Sense 5 and Scribe Pen. The latter is very similar to the S Pen popularized by Samsung's "phablet."

There is no concrete date as to when the devices will hit the market. However, Samsung may have the advantage due to the current success that it enjoys with the Samsung Galaxy S3. However, features and pricing are some of the crucial aspects that will also determine which will be declared as the winner in this war.
