Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4 KitKat Problems: How To Fix Useless 3rd Party Smart Covers And Other Issues
Galaxy Note 3 owners will soon receive Android 4.4 KitKat update. While some regions may have started rolling out the upgrade, there are still many regions waiting for the official roll out of the new OS.
For those who have earlier updated their devices, users reported having problems with third-party smart covers and accessories. A KitKat update will soon find its way to users to address the bug and fix functioning of third-party accessories.
Samsung has confirmed it will be issuing something related to Android 4.4.2 to fix the problem. The company has released the Android 4.4.2 since the last week of January. Previously, the company promised it will finish the roll out by first quarter 2014. Users should expect the arrival of the bug fix and other upgrades until March.
XDA forums reported some complaints from its users. According to the reports, the bug in the update damaged third-party versions of the S-View smart cover for Samsung. ZDNet quoted Samsung in a statement:
"We have currently identified the software compatibility issue. The software update will be available shortly. We are committed to offering a diverse and reliable mobile experience for all customers, providing continued support and solutions for any issues that arise with product updates for both Samsung manufactured and third-party accessories."
Similar to the official counterparts, the test versions of the S-View must display time and notifications using a transparent pane above the top half of the cover. Initial complaints at XDA Developers forums indicated problems for the $60 Spigen S-View Slim Armor for Galaxy Note 3.
Device owners were also not pleased after a report in German fan site that Samsung refused acknowledging that there was problem with third-party accessories and Android 4.4 KitKat. There were also reports that Samsung tweaked the update deliberately in a effort to encourage use of exclusive Samsung accessories. There were several sources claiming Samsung was shifting toward making an exclusive ecosystem for its devices and accessories.
People will have to wait for official clarification and announcement from Samsung regarding the matter. There were third-party sites providing quick solutions to the problem. Users can check them out for the meantime.
