Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Coming with 5.99-Inch Flexible Display, Slated for 4 U.S. Carriers & Release Date Hinted?
Samsung's Galaxy Note 3, one of the more notable, may possibly use of a flexible screen.
Samsung has been long-rumored to be hard at work to achieve an AMOLED flexible screen to rival LG as a competitor to be the first to deliver such a device in the mainstream category.
According to Phone Arena, Samsung may be gearing up for one version of the Galaxy Note 3 to have this screen. In addition, this version will not have the 5.7-inch display that was common of rumors surrounding the device, but rather a 5.99-inch flexible AMOLED display.
To further prove that the rumor is not just a mere idea on the part of Samsung, there have been reports that the flexible display will start mass production as early as August so a September launch in time for the IFA 2013 show will be possible.
If Samsung does push through with flexible displays, this would be a new technology that could fuel back interest in the brand after the Samsung Galaxy S4 has started to loosen the grip on consumers' wants.
In addition, this could be Samsung's break that would put the company in the lead as the first to release a flexible display, nudging out LG in the process.
More rumors for Samsung Galaxy Note 3
One of the reasons why the rumors on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 are fueled even further is due to its longstanding battle with Apple's iPhone and iPad devices.
Considering that Apple has been pretty quiet since the release of its iPhone 5 early this year, and Samsung has been hot on releases, with the new technology powering the Samsung Galaxy S4, along with a string of other phone iterations, it seems that the fall season this year would also come in with the phone battle still in place.
IT Pro Portal reports that on Samsung's arena, the device that has been gathering a faster pace of rumors is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, where a previous report has leaked a User Agent Profile pertaining to the device.
As for the release date, there have been speculations of a September release, in time for the IFA 2013 trade show in Berlin, which will be held from the 6th to the 11th of September.
Fall season seems to be the target date, and a reveal at the trade show would allude to previous rumors on how Samsung may be timing the launch of their next awaited device either a few weeks before or at the same time as Apple will be making its own release, just to steal potential thunder and interest of consumers.
Some of the other rumored specs of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 include the quad or octa-core ARM processor, a 13-megapixel rear camera, HD AMOLED display, with some reports stating that it would be 5.7 inches, though it contradicts with the most current rumor previously reported.
Galaxy Note 3 to land to these U.S. carriers
After the specs and release dates have been teased and rumored, the next round of speculations have pointed to a particular model number that have been spotted in various U.S. carrier phones.
Gotta Be Mobile reports that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is actually the SM-N900 model, varied only with the last letter to refer to which carrier it will go to.
For instance, those that will be heading to AT&T will be SM-N900A. Other carriers that have been spotted to be the next destination of the speculated model number of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 include T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon.
The report also lists down a couple more model number variations, with an SM-N900R3 and SM-N900P, both labeled as unknown carriers. While there are also two iterations for the phone's international version, the SM-N900, which is a version based on Samsung Exynos SoC and the SM-N9005, which is the one based on Snapdragon 800.
