Samsung Galaxy Note 3: How to Remove Both Regional and SIM Lock Without Buying $25 Worth of Codes Online
Regional lock on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 can be very troublesome and forces users to purchase SIM unlocking codes online for $20 or more. But ChainFire has created an almost free application to unlock the device to various network carriers regardless of location.
Regional SIM Lock of Galaxy Note 3
Once you have purchased the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005, the regional SIM lock is included and if you are a frequent traveller, do expect the crisis to attack after you left the area. Samsung's new system via regional SIM lock will not allow you to use the phablet from one location to another without activating the device first.
You are expected to use the Note 3 in the same country where you purchased it and so if you plan to bring the phablet from the United Kingdom to the United States - activate the device first.
Failing to do so, you are likely forced to purchase unlocking codes online which may cost at least $20 more for each code.
Developer's Solution
After the chaotic issue of Galaxy Note 3 SIM lock, ChainFire managed to create an unlocking application and may even unlock the local SIM restrictions between difference network carriers.
According to XDA Developer Committee and OEM Relations jerdog, the application unlocked his own Galaxy Note 3 from regional and SIM restrictions. He intentional purchased a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900T with a sole purpose on using it to AT&T without realising the possibility of being SIM-locked against T-Mobile.
He did attempt to use ChainFire's application and successfully gained what he wants for such a low price compared to unlocking codes costing at least $25 online per code.
Jerdog's Application Procedure
1. Inserted the T-Mobile SIM card which came with the box on the Galaxy Note 3 without activating or registering.
2. Rooted via ChainFire's CF AutoRoot application.
3. Purchased the RegionLock Away application from the Play Store.
4. Launched the RegionLock Away app and chose "reboot later" instead of "reboot now."
5. Switched off the Galaxy Note 3.
6. Removed the T-Mobile SIM card and then replaced with an AT&T SIM card.
7. Switched on the phablet and gained unlocking to both regional and SIM locks.
He was also able to setup the APN settings without any "wrong network" errors or any problem with configuration to be accepted by the Galaxy Note 3.
Owners planning to purchase and desires to unlock the Galaxy Note 3 should use ChainFire's RegionLock Away app which is highly recommended by jerdog himself. However, both of them cannot guarantee anything and if the app will work to every kind of Galaxy Note 3 variant worldwide.
