Samsung Galaxy Note first generation may not support Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, as bugs keep on hammering the device on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Owners of the Galaxy Note I may expect new life cycle from Android 4.4 KitKat OS which promised availability among older devices.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Issues on Galaxy Note I

Back in May 2013 according to GottaBeMobile, Galaxy Note I AT&T model received an official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean firmware update and delivered the Google Now and Project Butter features.

Unfortunately, the firmware also brought serious bugs on the device such as lags and battery life problems. In addition, one of the most desired features from Galaxy Note II - Multi-Window View - was not included on the Android 4.1 update of Galaxy Note I.

Owners received no Multi-Window for multi-tasking two applications at once, but instead got system lag and shortness of battery life on their devices after the update. The battery drain issue was described as:

"Just leaving the phone idle, connected to WiFi, with Power Saving On, Bluetooth OFF, GPS OFF and cellular data on with a strong signal' his battery drops from 100% to 50% in just seven hours," a detailed complain was quoted by Gotta Be Mobile.

AT&T hasn't released any official update to fix the issue, and bringing the device to the service centre will only cure the problem temporarily - you still get the lags and drain eventually.

Due to Samsung's plan of skipping Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to make way for Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, owners of the variant may need to endure more till the new software arrives or simply upgrade to Galaxy Note 2 instead.

Android 4.4 KitKat: Chocolate of Hope

Google designed the upcoming major Android version, 4.4 KitKat, to support aging Android devices having hardware and memory issues. Optimisation is what Android 4.4 will bring to the Galaxy Note first generation equipped with hardware compatible with the upcoming OS.
