Samsung Galaxy Q: A Happy Medium Between a Phone and a Tablet?
Standing at just 5 inches, the Samsung Galaxy Q seems to be happily standing in the middle ground between the bigger 10-inch tablets and the smaller smartphone.
According to reports from Yahoo News Korea, the tablet will be the next device to be released by Samsung.
Whether or not the Galaxy Q is going to be a 4G tablet, however, what should be more pressing for Samsung is how it will market this product. Buyers looking for a bigger smartphone can always opt for Samsung's own Infuse 4G, which has a 4.5-inch screen and solves the need for a tablet that can fit in your pocket. Tablet users would also need some convincing, as a 5-inch screen could be too small for some table apps.
The Samsung Galaxy Q isn't the only tablet in the 5-inch size; Dell also released a 5-inch tablet last year with the Dell Streak and even then it couldn't decide if it wanted to be a tablet or a smartphone. Samsung should learn from the Streak's failure -- at $550, it was too expensive for such a tiny tablet -- and sell the Galaxy Q at a lower price.
The 5-inch tablet could be a boon for Samsung if the company does it right. Apple would certainly be looking at the Galaxy line, as both these companies have been locked in a patent war. But it's still uncertain whether consumers will embrace a 5-inch tablet.
