Samsung Galaxy S, S2, S2 Mini, S3 Mini Ends at Android 4.1?
Before Android 4.4 KitKat was announced by Google, sources of SamMobile revealed a list of qualified devices to get Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. But some of listed Galaxy gadgets may not stay on their pre-destined path and possible to end up with their current OS.
Galaxy S2 and S3 Mini should get Android 4.2.2 while Galaxy S first-generation and Galaxy S2 Mini should remain on their current OS since they were not listed on the selected devices.
There are three possible main factors which may be considered before Samsung develop a firmware designed for older devices.
1. TouchWiz UI: Samsung already suffered problems with Galaxy S3 and Note 2 regarding the full integration of their customised Android launcher which was solved recently, allowing both devices to get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
2. RAM and Processor: At least 512MB RAM may be required and dual-core processor may be required to run the latest TouchWiz UI from Samsung which not so common among older devices.
3. Release Date: Samsung would likely update the latest and most selling Galaxy devices due to popularity. Developing firmware for every device consumes time and effort and Samsung released lots of phones and tablets for the Galaxy line.
Below are the technical specifications of Galaxy S, S2, S2 Mini and S3 Mini which may hint owners should expect any Android 4.3 or Android 4.4 soon.
