Samsung announced a set of Galaxy devices which would receive Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and unfortunately, Galaxy S2 Mini isn't included to get a whole new user experience such as Google Now or Project Butter.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Mini Exclusion

Unlike with Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 minis, the Galaxy S2 mini won't be getting an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean from Samsung due to "not being able to ensure the best user experience" under the OS version. This has been confirmed by SamsungMobile Spain and sent a tweet that Galaxy S2 mini would not be able to get the update.

"@edd124_ Hi, updating the Galaxy Mini 2 not going to happen because we cannot ensure the best user experience. A greeting," SamsungMobile Espana from quoted translation of GeekyGadgets.

Technical Issues of Galaxy S2 Mini

Samsung Galaxy S2 mini technical specifications may be the reason why Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is not going to be pleasurable even with Project Butter. The handset has 512MB RAM which good for most devices but the 800MHz single-core processor could suffer on running Android Jelly Bean OS. Right now, the device can run Android 2.3 Gingerbread as default and possibly working fine with custom based Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware.

Updating from Gingerbread OS Version

Having no Jelly Bean OS for Galaxy S2 mini may upset owners of the device but custom ROMs can be the only option to update the device. Like Galaxy Mini, certain custom firmware from CyanogenMod, Omega, SlimBean and others run higher Android versions such as Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean.

In relation with the technical specifications, it is most likely that these developers created Android 4.0 based custom firmware to allow owners to access Google Now and apps without hurting "user experience." Custom based firmware also eliminates bloatware found in stock ROMs.

So if you own a Galaxy S2 mini, check out custom ROM developers and get updates from them instead.
