Samsung Galaxy S3 4.3 Jelly Bean Update Delayed Again; To Have Dec. Rollout
Samsung Galaxy S3 is bound to receive the 4.3 Jelly Bean update in Dec.
The report stemmed from the statement of Samsung's president of strategic marketing for the mobile division Lee Don-joo to the Korea Times. He said that Samsung Galaxy S4 will be connected to the Galaxy Gear by next month. This will be followed by the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3.
"All functions of the Gear will be connected to the Galaxy S4 smartphone by next month and the connection will be expanded to Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 by the end of December," Lee Don-joo told the news Web site.
This means that Samsung Galaxy S4 will receive the 4.3 Jelly Bean update next month. The Samsung Galaxy S3 and Note 2 will receive the update by the end of this year.
The Galaxy Gear was released alongside the Galaxy Note 3 and is compatible with 4.3 Android Jelly Bean OS. This is due to the fact that the Gear uses Bluetooth 4.0 to connect to smartphones and tablets. Bluetooth 4.0 is one of the new features on Google's latest JellyBean update.
It was previously reported that Samsung Galaxy S3 will receive the 4.3 Jelly Bean update in Oct. The good news was announced at the recent Unpacked event in Berlin last Sept. 4.
The 4.3 Jelly Bean update will bring new features such as "restricted profiles, Bluetooth 4.0 low-energy support, Open GL 3.0 support, and a T9 dialer. There has also been improvement in terms of notifications for the device," Android Authority reported.
Samsung users expressed their disappointment on to the slow rollout of Android OS updates. Reports stated that Samsung will skip the release of 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update and will directly get the 4.3 version of the OS. Other reports said that the 4.2.2 version update is already rolling out in some regions.
During the past months, the rollout of the latest Android update on Samsung devices has been constantly delayed and was unable to match the speed of release of Google's update on the Android OS.
However, GS3 and GS4 users who want to download and install the later versions of Jelly Bean update may opt to choose the Custom ROM and other unofficial, root-based Jelly Bean update from developers.
