Samsung Galaxy S3 owners in the UK and other parts of the globe has received the Android Jelly Bean 4.3 update only for many users to experience bugs and operating problems. Those who wish to sidestep the bugs and problems can consider updating to Android 4.4 KitKat custom ROM. The ROM caters specifically to Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 version offering generally more stable interface than the official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware.

The custom ROM comes from the OmniROM team. Auto Mobile reported that it offers more stable performance compared to the official Jelly Bean. However, users may have to deal with a messy video playback and camera. For those who do not mind the drawbacks of the custom ROM, here are the installation steps:

Important Note: Providers of the update cannot be held responsible for what happens to the Samsung Galaxy S3 device following installation. Custom ROMs are not official releases. Users can download and install the firmware at their own risk.

1. Make sure the device's model number is Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300. Flashing the ROM to other models may result to a bricked device.

2. Root the device and install recovery application like ClockworkMod Touch 6.0.32.

3. Back up all important information, settings and data. Users do a manual backup or through Samsung Kies PC Suite.

4. See to it the device is charged 50% or more to avoid power interruptions.

5. USB Debugging mode should be enabled. To do this, open 'Settings > Applications > Development > USB 'debugging' or 'Settings' > Developer Options > USB 'debugging.'

6. Download and save all required USB drivers.

7. Download the OmniROM 4.4 package along with PA Gapps.

Here are the flashing instructions:

1. Connect the S3 device to the computer using USB cable.

2. Transfer the OmniROM 4.4 and PA Gapps package to the SD card of the device. Do not extract the files yet.

3. Disconnect device and turn it off.

4. Hold the Power, Home and Volume button together to go into recovery mode. Wait for the Samsung logo to appear.

5. Use hard keys or touch controls to go around recovery mode.

6. Do an Android backup of the existing ROM. To do this, choose 'backup and restore > backup' to save the ROM. This allows users to go back to their original ROM if they prefer to.

7. Install the ROM along with Google apps. To do this, choose 'install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card > find OmniROM 4.4 file > confirm installation.

8. Do the same thing for PA Gapps.

9. Following installation, return to the menu and choose 'wipe data/factory reset.'

10. Choose 'reboot system now.'

The device should start running on KitKat already.
