An owner of the Samsung Galaxy S3 suffered hand injuries after the device exploded and debris flew directly to him. He claims that his Galaxy S3 burned and melted as it delivers smoke across the entire second floor of his home.

Owner's post was found on Reddit.com and his first post indicated grave news about his experience with the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Vizionx1208 submitted his post not more than 5 days ago and at 3:15 in the morning (EST) which is about an hour after plugged the device, placed it right next to the bed and went to sleep, he was alarmed by a loud noise with weird squeaking sound.

He woke up and smoke began to come out of his Galaxy S3 with a bad smell. Even under his 'half-asleep' state, he jumped right out of the bed and turned on the lights and was rattled by fire coming out of his phone.

His reaction is to dumped a glass of water he had in the room to prevent the fire from growing. The stinky smoke spread across the entire second floor of his home and the foam mattress pillow top had a burned hole through it.

But the incident didn't stop there, the plastic components started to melt and occasional shoots some debris injuring his 'pinkie' finger then burned some of his skin.

According to the owner of the damaged device, he didn't manipulated, rooted or reconfigured the Galaxy S3 and use all what was given to him right out of the box upon purchase such as the handset, stock battery, charger and others.

Vizionx1208 asks if the incident is enough for him to file a legal or liability case against Samsung. He also inquires if it's possible to talk to the company's PR team and perhaps have the phone replaced and other material damages at his home. The owner claims that he didn't suffered and substantial damages to himself or personal property.

Samsung is now working diligently to sort things out and what possible resolution could be done for the affected owner.

Causes of Phone Malfunction

There are many factors which causes malfunction to electronic devices such as smartphone, tablet, PC or laptops. It is best to be knowledgeable on these factors to determine any risk to both owners and other users.

  • Heat: Once the temperature goes up due to extreme usage, try turning it off or have it cooled by using a fan or placed it in a well-ventilated area. Do not place it inside the fridge or freezer. Another way to quickly cool it down is to remove the battery once the device has completely shut down.
  • Overclocking: Although is it suggested by many users for high-speed performance, overclocking your device can cause high temperature to the processor which can burn it eventually. Overclocked device requires a cool and well-ventilated place, and owners doing this should the risk.
  • Charging: Depending on the real cause, owners should prioritise the usage of the manufacturer's charger given in the box. Incompatibility can burn or damage the device. In rare case, high-voltage electricity can also cause destruction of any electronic device.
  • Accidental Damage: As much as possible, never drop your phone to avoid damaging the internal parts of your device. Certain devices are completely locked which you cannot see the insides to determine if something has been broken. Any parts that have been damage can short circuit your device.
  • Defective Device: This could happen normally but not every day or to everyone. Sometimes, there are units which have defects and owners should bring them back to where they bought if any problems are noticeable. Remember, there is NO PERFECT device out there so when purchasing a new one, test everything inside and out to prevent any problems after sales.
