Samsung is expected to announce a miniature version of its flagship smartphone, Galaxy S3. Rumors claimed that the device aims for iPhone 5 users.

Some retailers already listed the purported images and details of the rumored Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini on their websites. It seems that users will be given options on what they want to purchase. The Galaxy S3 Mini is reportedly available in blue and white, with or without NFC connectivity, for $540 and $560, respectively.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini will appeal to a wider audience, but it would also put the company in a better position to compete with Apple's latest iPhone 5. Many iPhone users tend to diss the larger display size found in many Android handsets, a smaller Galaxy S3 could attract those iPhone users who are considering making the switch to Android.

The original Samsung Galaxy S3 is not everybody's cup of tea. Thus, it is not surprising that Samsung will make another smartphone to cater to those people who are looking for a smaller yet powerful smartphone.

The smaller version is expected to sport a 4-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The retail listing only features the available options, but does not provide any official pictures of the purported device. The handset is expected to have a WVGA display, a 5-megapixel camera, a dual-core processor, and the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean right out of the box.

The South Korean tech giant will hold a media event on October 11. The invitations touted something small that can be really big, and the Galaxy S3 Mini is expected to be the star of the event in Berlin.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is not the only device that Apple should be worried with. Samsung is also rumored to be working with another variant of Galaxy S2 - Galaxy S2 Plus. However, there is very limited information leaked about this device.

Both devices are expected to be introduced on the fourth quarter of this year and just in time for the holiday shopping season. If the rumors are true, Samsung will get past Apple's iPhone 5 with four smartphones under its belt.

Samsung did not release an official comment on the rumors nor it denies the existence of the devices.
