Samsung's Galaxy S3, S4, Note 2 and Note 3 may only receive the Android 4.4 KitKat OS update on 2014.

Owners of Samsung devices should not get their hopes up when it comes to the roll out of Android 4.4 KitKat OS update as the company may release the update next year.

Google unveiled the Android 4.4 KitKat OS alongside the Google Nexus 5 on Nov. 1. The company announced that Nexus 4, 7 and 10 as well as Google Play Edition smartphones are the first devices to receive the KitKat software update.

Users of Samsung devices are more than excited to receive the update. It is speculated that Samsung Galaxy S4, S3 and Note 2 will receive the Android 4.4 KitKat OS update although the company has not confirmed anything. SamMobile tipped off that Android 4.4 KitKat OS update for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is already on the testing phase and will be released in the near future.

However, Samsung smartphones may receive the Android 4.4 KitKat OS update next year after the announcement of Samsung Galaxy S5. It is speculated that the rumoured Samsung Galaxy S5 will be the first smartphone to receive the KitKat OS aside from the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition.

Moreover, reports say that Samsung is currently working on the Google Play Store update on Nov. 21. The refresh in the Play Store is an attempt to improve the Android tablet experience. Google has announced that the tablet-optimised apps will be more visible for those browsing the Play store. Android Developers announced the revamp as a reminder for developers to update their apps and games prepared for tablet usage.

Furthermore, the search engine giant warned that apps and games that would not meet the company's 'designed for tablets' criteria will be marked as 'designed for phones' for the users browsing Play store on Android tablets.

Currently, Samsung is rolling out the 4.3 Jelly Bean OS update for Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4. However, users are reported to be plagued with issues in updating their devices. Many users complained about the handset being unresponsive after the update especially the lock screen, and depleted battery life as well as an unstable Wi-Fi connection or the handset locking up completely needing the battery to be pulled to restart the device. However, Samsung has not yet addressed the issues.
