No handset is truly immune from update and operating system issues. This is the case for Samsung Galaxy S4 and its Android 4.4.2 update. Owners of the device have complained about a number of issues plaguing their use following update. Some problems have also persisted from previous version of the Android. Fortunately, aside from another major OS update, there are several workarounds or fixes for these problems.

Rebooting Problems

One of the most complained about problems of the Galaxy S4 is rebooting. Many users pointed out that their devices will just reboot randomly. There are no definite causes of the random rebooting though many sources say that it has something to do with the SD card and the software. Fixed by Vonnie suggests that people should update their OS to the next latest Android firmware. If this will not fix the issue then removing the SD card may do the trick. Observe how the unit operates. If it is still rebooting then the problem may be on the hardware. It is best to take the device to a repair shop or center.

Undetected SIM Card

An undetected SIM card is a primary issue because it may also mean hardware problems. Nonetheless, there is a quick fix users can try. For instance, they can try to inspect the SIM card tray. Pull out the SIM card, dust off the compartment then put the card back in. Turn the device on. If there is still a message "No Service / SIM card not detected" then a new SIM card may be necessary. The S4 hardware may also be defective thus repair or replacement of some parts is in order.

WCCF Tech also noted that some people reported their contacts list broken when the device gets updated. The problem may be related to the synced email contacts. To address this, people can delete the synced email then add it again.
