Samsung will reportedly tweak the build design of its Galaxy S4, indicating that succeeding shipments of the new flagship Android handset will be resistant to neglect, abuse and elements.

Specifically, Samsung intends to release the GS4 in the coming months with added protection against water splashes and dust intrusions, according to a report published recently by tech blog site Tech View.

Citing a Samsung official based in the Middle East, the report pointed to an impending GS4 redesign, focusing mostly on the body-make of the smartphone, which is a mixture polycarbonate on the back, a metal siding wrapping its edge and a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on front.

It is not clear if any of the current GS4 materials will be replaced though experts offered that if Samsung merely wants to keep liquid and dust out of the device, it could opt for a thin transparent coating to act as gadget shield.

Definitely, the redesign will spare the glass portion, which in a recent YouTube video was proven sturdy enough to withstand scratches deliberately delivered by coins and knives.

The report came out following a new study that showed the GS4 could be easily wrecked by a nasty fall or accidental dip on a toilet bowl.

Conducted by Square Trade, the research suggested that one out of eight GS4s could suffer crack screens if dropped by their owners. Also, owing to its removable back cover, the handset could be rendered unusable when immersed in bucket full of water.

Compared to its close Android rivals like the HTC One and the Sony Xperia Z, the Galaxy S4 offers little protection against the onset of likely damages that are caused by high drops or water intrusion.

The One, for instance, uses a metal chassis that holds its components together and covers its insides with a combination of aluminium back and glass front covers.

Sony's Xperia Z, on the other hand, came out of the box boasting of protection against water and dust.
