Samsung owners have been waiting for the official roll out of the Android 4.4 KitKat and its sub updates on their devices. Fortunately, Samsung has started the release. The update has been trickling down different carriers and users for the last few weeks. Despite the much awaited upgrade, there are users who reported problems about their Galaxy devices following the update. What went wrong? How do users get around these issues?

According to a report by The Droid Guy, some users reported not having the update despite knowing users with similar handsets. The update cannot be pulled down for some reason.

How to Fix: There are carriers that cluster devices for easy tracking. For some, they group devices according to IMEI. The update may depend largely on the carrier and the plan the user has. It is best to clarify with the company. Likewise, it can be a minor software glitch, a reset of the phone may help.

A power shock should fix the minor glitch as well. Instead of the usual reboot, users can open the back panel. Remove the battery then leave the device for a minute. Pressing and holding the power button should discharge the capacitors while refreshing the memory of the phone. Put back the battery and turn on the phone. It should be operational. Open Settings then About Phone for the update.

There are also users who reported experiencing system update interrupted. Some individuals can download the software up to 90% but the download will eventually stop.

How to Fix: It is best to use a separate connection from the one used. Galaxy devices can connect in two ways: WiFi and mobile data. To use another connection, follow these steps:

  • Go to the Menu.
  • Open Settings then choose General Tab.
  • Open Application Manager.
  • Swipe right or left to check All tab contents.
  • Go to Download Manager.
  • Click on Clear Cache.
  • Choose Clear then confirm with OK.

As for messaging app crashing, wiping the cache and data should do the trick. Go to Applications Manager. Swipe to check All tab contents. Open Messaging > Force Close > Clear Cache > Clear Data > Ok.
