Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play Editions received the security update of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS this week.

These are two variants that are first to receive the software update after Nexus device received the update last month. The update provides security fix that repairs a cryptographic vulnerability that hackers allegedly exploited in a Bitcoin heist last month.

The software update is available on the Google Play edition of both devices under the codename JWR66Y.

The Google Play Editions of Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One were launched earlier this year and feature the same specs of the carrier-based models.

The only difference between the two versions is that the Google Play variant runs with pure Android software that discards the Samsung's TouchWiz UI and HTC's Sense platforms. More consumers prefer the Google Play Editions of the handsets because it tends to receive updates faster. Many claimed that the handsets run smoother.

Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One smartphones bound to carriers are reported to receive the 4.3 version of Jelly Bean OS. However, the date has not been disclosed yet. Some reports claimed that the software update will arrive sometime in October.

During the past months, the roll out of the latest Android software update has been constantly delayed and not matching the speed of release of Google's update.

According to the Android Authority, 4.3 Jelly Bean update will bring new features such as "restricted profiles, Bluetooth 4.0 low-energy support, Open GL 3.0 support, and a T9 dialer. There has also been improvement in terms of notifications for the device."

Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play Editions are both available in the Google Play Store for $649 and $599, respectively. However, the carrier-based models are much cheaper, sold for $199 through different carriers.
