Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Release Date Tipped for June 2014

Samsung recently announced that it will hold a press event for its Galaxy Premiere Tab in New York on June 12. This sparked speculations that the Galaxy S5 Active will make an appearance in the said event. Samsung did not confirm the report, leaving tech geeks wondering when the device would reach mobile stores.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active first appeared in two hands-on videos by TK Tech News in May 20, 2014. The unofficial appearance of the model was followed by an image leak by often accurate tipster @Evleaks on May 23, showing a photo of the S5 Active's AT&T version. Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Expected Features and Specifications

Netizens question Samsung's decision on manufacturing an Active version of the Galaxy S5 due to the fact that the present flagship is already a "sturdy" phone in itself. The Samsung Galaxy S5 features a water-proof and dust-resistant body, a primary characteristic that make an "Active" device.

However, leaks suggest that the S5 Active is not a mere device for the outdoor lover. The upcoming smartphone is reportedly slimmer than the standard Galaxy S5. It comes with corner bumpers specifically designed to withstand accidental drops and falls. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is also touted to sport a special application called "The Activity Zone," an app aimed at users with active lifestyle. It includes a flashlight, barometer, compass, and stopwatch, added with the default S Health apps from the original Samsung Galaxy S5.

If the June 2014 release date for the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active will prove true, it may come with the rumoured specifications including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB RAM, Full-HD display, a 16MP camera and Android 4.4.2 KitKat, according to GSM Arena.

Samsung Galaxy S5 16 GB 4G LTE variant sells at around AUD 749.95. PC Advisor predicts the model to have a tag of AUD 996.09 in the UK, based on the prices of the previous Active variants. There are no updates whether how much the S5 Active would cost in Australia as of this writing.
