Samsung Galaxy S5 to Come with 4 GB RAM?
Media reports confirm that Samsung is working on 64-bit processing chips. The move paves the way to have RAM greater than 4 GB on its next iteration - the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Talking to Korea Times, Samsung's mobile business chief Shin Jong-kyun confirmed that the next smartphones for the company will feature a 64-bit processing chip. Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S5 in 2014.
The transition from a 32 bit chip to a 64 bit chip can make the Samsung Galaxy S5 more powerful and faster. The transition is not expected to be in the "shortest time" according to Mr.Shin. He however did not explicitly mention the Galaxy S5.
Recently Apple launched the A7 chip with a 64-bit architecture. Analysts expect that this will soon be the industry standard with rival manufacturers jumping on to the 64 bit bandwagon. The Samsung Galaxy S5 could perhaps be the first to follow judging by the statements by the company.
Some analysts feel that a 64-bit chip by itself need not mean that the smartphone will be better or feature a 4 GB RAM. The iPhone 5S for example has a 64 bit chip but does not come with a 4GB RAM. Will the Samsung Galaxy S5 be any different?
Samsung seems to be focussing on the RAM lately, its flagship Galaxy Note 3 feature a 3 GB RAM already. Analysts feel that a 4 GB RAM can be expected in the Galaxy S5 if the company wants it to take on the iPhone 5S.
A 4GB RAM and a 64 bit chip could come with another feature in the Samsung Galaxy S5. The processing power consumes a lot of energy. The Galaxy Note 3 for example comes with a Li-Ion 3200 mAh battery.
The official Apple Web site interestingly does not mention the RAM for the iPhone 5S. If it is an expected 2GB RAM then it may not be something the company can brag about. But anything more than that will have to be matched or made better in the Samsung Galaxy S5.
The additional processing power and RAM can drastically improve the performance of the Samsung Galaxy S5, according to analysts. It will be particularly useful for multi-tasking like using multiple apps at the same time.
Gaming experience could also be greatly enhanced in the Samsung Galaxy S5. Fans of the company eagerly wait for the next iteration from the company.
