Samsung Galaxy S5 and iPhone 6 may not pack the rumoured curved display for their respective release dates next year.

According to the latest report from The Korea Herald, neither the iPhone 6 nor the Galaxy S5 will feature curved screens.

Samsung will probably skip this feature because of insufficient capacity. Currently, LG and Samsung are the only companies that manufacture flexible displays.

Samsung is currently producing up to 500,000 units of flexible displays at a 30 per cent yield. Next year, production could go up to 1 million units. However, this may not be enough to supply the flagship smartphone with curved display. Therefore, consumers may see such feature as early as 2015.

In line with this report, Apple may also ditch this feature since the only companies that make flexible displays do not meet their own needs as a company. Moreover, Shinhan Investment's John Seo explained that although it may be difficult for Apple to launch the iPhone 6 with curved displays this year, it is possible to pack such feature in the year after. Previous reports claimed the iPhone 6 could feature a curved screen with OLED display.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 6 are the two most anticipated smartphones coming next year. The two devices were initially speculated to have the same release date early next year, in the first quarter of 2014. However, new rumours gave rise to other possible launch dates.

Aside from curved displays, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 6 may have similar features such as chip processors with 64-bit architecture. Apple already introduced the 64-bit A7 chip in the iPhone 5S. However, Samsung confirmed that the company's upcoming devices will pack the same CPU. Another similar feature of the two devices is the fingerprint sensor. Rumours claimed that Samsung may have the said technology packed in the Samsung Galaxy S5.
