Samsung Galaxy S5, Note 4 Features to Include 64-Bit Exynos CPUs, Confirms ARM Exec
Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 will surely pack 64-bit Exynos chip processors, according to senior ARM executive.
According to a report of Korean Herald, Samsung and ARM will soon launch a 14nm 64-bit Exynos 6 CPU chips in 2014 and they will be featured in the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4. The ARM official said that the new processor will be a lot like the A7 processor packed in the recently released iPhone 5S. The report added that Samsung and ARM have finalised their plans to equip the Samsung Galaxy S5 with the new 64-bit chip.
"Executives from Samsung and ARM had a meeting today. They discussed the ARM 64-bit chip, which is expected to be used in Samsung's smartphone next year. Cortex-M processors, which are used for products in the smart home system, might have been on the agenda," said a senior manager from ARM. The ARM official also said the 128-bit chip may be launched within the next two years. So far, there are no plans to do that yet.
Last Sept., Samsung's CEO of Mobile, Shin Jong-Kyun confirmed that 64-bit processors are coming on the future Samsung smartphones. Thus, consumers can expect this feature next year.
Another rumoured feature of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 is a three-sided screen display. The said feature is tipped by Bloomberg. The report said that Samsung is confident to bring more advanced curved displays next year. The screen displays will offer users three different sides to use and to receive content from. The latest display technology is called YOUM AMOLED display is already being developed by the company with 2,560 x 1,440 WQHD and 560 ppi resolution.
However, Bloomberg's report claimed that consumers can expect to see this technology in the second half of 2014. Thus, the feature may be seen on the Galaxy Note 4 and will be skipped by the Galaxy S5. But Samsung will most likely to speed things up in the development department of the screen displays to meet the deadline for the Samsung Galaxy S5 in order to battle the rumoured curved screen display on iPhone 6.
