Samsung Galaxy S5 'Prime' Set for a June 2014 Release?
Technology giant Samsung is expected to launch the Samsung Galaxy S5 "Prime" smartphone after the existence of such device emerged on the South Korean company Web site. The device that appeared in Samsung's Find My Mobile page with the model number SM-G906S is reportedly set for a June 2014 release.
According to the Phandroid report, the Samsung device that surfaced on the company Web site is an alternative model of the Samsung Galaxy S5. The smartphone will be having a high display resolution of 2560x1440p which is an increase from the 1920x1080p resolution found on the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Unnamed sources of AsiaToday claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime will be arriving this June. The South Korean technology giant will be targeting the North America and Europe for the "Prime" device but it is still unknown how extensive the company will offer the device when it comes to carrier availability.
The reported features and specs of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime or also known as the Project KQ include a 5.2-inch QHD screen display with 564ppi, an exceptionally fast octa-core Exynos 5430 processor clocked at 2.1GHz and a metal body of the device instead of Samsung's trademark plastic body.
However, the Financial Review report noted the reasons why Samsung sticks to a plastic body for their device. First, it increases the durability of the device by allowing the users to replace the battery with a new one.
Second reason, it allows the users to remove the back cover and clip on a new and slimmer one. Lastly, the plastic material does not get in the way of the wireless signal which is still the key purpose of a smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 was initially reported to have a metal body but it got introduced with a plastic body comparable to the previously released Samsung Galaxy devices. There is a possibility that the same will happen with the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime when released in June 2014.
Meanwhile, the GSMArena report claims Project KQ is set to be launched with different versions sporting a different chipset. "The model destined for South Korea is going to pack the company's latest octa-core Exynos 5430 chipset. The new silicon features quad 2.1GHz Cortex-A15 and quad 1.5GHz Cortex-A7 cores in addition to an 600MHz ARM Mali GPU," the report noted.
