Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Date, Concept and Specs Roundup
Samsung Galaxy S5 remains one of the most awaited devices for 2014. According to recent reports, Samsung will announce the product officially during the Mobile World Congress in Spain while the release will be around mid-March/April. With the amount of information circling the internet, it is best to roundup what people can expect from Samsung so far. What will the Samsung Galaxy S5 deliver?
Release Date
As the Mobile World Congress approaches, more analysts and sources become convinced that Samsung will announce the handset during the event. The reports were also based on Samsung's Galaxy S4 performance. The Korean tech giant failed to post predicted profits. Sales of the Galaxy S4 dropped following the release of Apple's iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.
According to analysts, an early release will give Samsung excellent lead time from competitors. Apple will release the iPhone 6 later in the year. However, despite the market consensus, a number of Korean executives who attended CES did not confirm the MWC announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S5. The release will remain around March or April, similar to the release of Samsung Galaxy S4. According to reports, despite the later release than MWC 2014, the March/April launch will still give Samsung 5-month window before Apple releases its iPhone 6.
Two Variants
There are also reports saying that Samsung will be releasing two versions of the Samsung Galaxy S5. One will be made of plastic and one from metal/aluminum. Some analysts think the Korean tech giant wants to follow Apple's footsteps in releasing a high end and lower version of their flagship phone. If the metal variant will be true then this may mean the Galaxy S5 will not come with a removable battery. It may not suit some users.
In fact, according to a Samsung official, the design of the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be entirely different from the Samsung Galaxy S5. However, the official failed to divulge about the materials to be used for the next flagship phone.
Additional Features
When Apple introduced the TouchID on the iPhone 5s, it prompted other tech manufacturers to look into gesture controls and similar features on their smartphones. Whereas HTC and other companies decided to include a fingerprint scanner as well, Samsung is focusing on eye-tracking software. The technology will allow the Samsung Galaxy S5 to recognize iris template of the user instead of a pass code. It will also let the device know whether the user is looking at the screen or not allowing it to shut off applications not in use.
There are also reports saying that Samsung designed a flatter TouchWiz. It will also have less skeumorphic to work better with Android's new 4.4 KitKat update. There will also be two choices for the processor: either an Exynos octa-core SOC or a quad-core 2.3 Snapdragon 800 processor with Android 330 GPU. Other reported features include a 4GB RAM and ISOCELL camera.
